8X5: A Musical Explosion
Forty songs from me to you. Enjoy. :3

Formulated during a really boring stretch of Taxonomy Class.

Mediafire is being a douche and my uploads of the zipfiles keep getting foiled. I will maybe upload them when I get home from school tomorrow. Sorry about that

All files are .mp3.

Songs with titles that contain...

(1) CITIES

one. Boston // Augustana
[I'm pretty sure everyone has heard this song as it enjoyed a lot of airplay, but I love it too much not to put it here.]
She said, 'I think I'll go to Boston...
I think I'll start a new life
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather
'

two.
Marching Bands of Manhattan // Death Cab for Cutie
[I love the rhythm the lyrics have to them, like how they could be a really sad poem set to music.]
I wish we could open our eyes
To see in all directions at the same time
Oh, what a beautiful view
If you were never aware of what was around you

three.
London Halflife // Metric
[The aura of melancholy of the song is beautiful~.]
And if you're compromised, drive your car through the rain
And if you've been beaten, drive your car through the rain
'Till you wash off the buzz

four.
Moving to New York // The Wombats
[I just love the music. So much. I'm such a lyrics girl, but the music~.]
So I'm moving to New York 'coz I've got problems with my sleep,
And we're not the same and I will wear that on my sleeve

five.
On a Freezing Chicago Street // Margot & The Nuclear So and So's
[I totally love 'Margot' and this is a nice slow-tempo song from them. And I'm pretty resigned to the fact that most of these songs are sad.]
Your hands were trembling from all those pills you took
And we got drunk on cheap red wine in a paper cup

six. Winter in Chicago // 504 Plan
[My favorite 504 Plan song for the longest time.]
In this room, in this chair,
At this screen that I face
My music and solitude,
I'll play it for you

seven.
Vienna // The Fray
[The piano~ in this. Oh my God. I LOVE IT. And, beyond that, the lyrics are beautifully sad too.]
The day's last one-way ticket train pulls in
We smile for the casual closure capturing
There goes the downpour
Here goes my fare thee well

eight.
Vegas Baby // The Weepies
[They're probably in my Top 5 bands now, and they're really mellow~, and it's delightful. And they're great going-to-sleep music.]
And I'm flying through the heat
The Mexicali radio
Every car is like a prayer
Searching for somewhere to go

(2) NUMBERS

one. Five Years Time // Noah & The Whale
[There is whistling and boy-girl harmonies and awesome lyrics and flute. THIS IS KINDA A RIGHTNOW FAVORITE. Oh, yeah, and it's mostly happy except for the second-to-the-last stanza which is pretty sad.]
Oh, well, I'll look at you and say, 'It's the happiest I've ever been'
And I'll say, 'I no longer feel I have to be James Dean'
And she'll say, 'Yeah well I feel, oh, pretty happy, too'
And I'm always pretty happy when I'm just kicking back with you'

two. 9 Crimes // Damien Rice (with Lisa Hannigan)
[Sad, sad, sad and has some of the most beautiful music. The piano, the violin and the vocals are perfectly married.]
Leave me out with the waste
This is not what I do
It's the wrong kind of place
To be thinking of you

three.
505 // Arctic Monkeys
[A different sorta Arctic Monkeys song. Slow. And I really like it.]
But I crumble completely when you cry,
It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye.

four. 1, 2, 3, 4 // Plain White T's
[My rightnow Plain White T's favorite. One of those silly 'I love you' songs.]
Give me more lovin from the very start
Piece me back together when i fall apart
Tell me things you never even tell your closest friends
Make me feel good when I hurt so bad

five. 23 // Jimmy Eat World
[One of the first Jimmy Eat World songs I heard. It made me want to listen to them more.]
You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here and now I'm ready

six. 32 Flavors // Ani DiFranco
[A really good slow beat and it's always sounded like a sexy song to me even if the lyrics are very very not.]
I'm not trying to give my life meaning
By demeaning you
And I would like to state for the record
I did everything that I could do

seven.
3 Feet Tall // I Am Kloot
[I love the music. It kinda always makes me bop my head along.]
Take my hand across the sand and lead me out to sea
Heaven sent the money we spent, give it back to me

eight. #34 // Dave Matthews Band
[A really nice tune to just leave in the background when you're in a think-y mood.]
Instrumental

(3) FOOD OR DRINK

one. Chocolate // Snow Patrol
[A song that I discovered on 'The Last Kiss' soundtrack (and yeah, kinda sad) but it's awesome. I kinda love Snow Patrol a lot.]
This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because I'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time

two. Bowl of Oranges // Bright Eyes
[A pretty narrative song (I never hear enough of those; I love them ridiculous amounts). Think-y.]
So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone
And your eyes must do some raining if you are ever going to grow
But when crying don't help and you can't compose yourself,
It is best to compose a poem, an honest verse of longing or a simple song of hope

three. C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips // OK Go
[A fun song to listen to and sing along to. OK Go is another really favorite of mine.]
Some day (one day) you'll miss me
Mundane Sundays, when I'm gone
One day (some day) you'll miss me
One day when I'm gone (adieu and so long)

four. Coffee and Cigarettes // Augustana
[I love the guitar in this song. It the kind of the peaceful music you play to fall asleep to.]
With clocks, watch the time go till spring,
When the sun can finally be free

five. Wine Red // The Hush Sound
[I love The Hush Sound and this is pretty much one of my favorites of theirs.]
This chaos, this calamity, this garden once was perfect
Give your immortality to me
I'll set you up among the stars

six. Mayonnaise // The Academy Is...
[A cover of a Smashing Pumpkins song. Something I only discovered recently. It's pretty awesome.]
Shut my mouth and strike the demons
That cursed you and all your reasons
Out of hand and out of season
Out of love and out of feeling

seven. Death by Chocolate // Sia
[Either the best or worst title of a song ever. Sia's got a really pretty voice which I love on this song.]
Death by crying doesn't exist, though
The headaches feel a bit like it
You might explode
But you reach the end of the road

eight. Champagne Supernova // Oasis
[Another song pretty much everyone has. A really great chilling song that I just love having on repeat.]
Someday you will find me
Caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky

(4) THE WORD "NO"

one. No Other Way // Jack Johnson
[Both this song and Jack Johnson are old favorites of mine. Another lazy weekend song.]
All the words that we say
And the words that we mean
Words can fall short
Can't see the unseen

two. You Know I'm No Good // Arctic Monkeys
[Them again. I love them and this cover of an Amy Winehouse tune.]
Then you notice little carpet burn,
My stomach drops and my guts churn,
You shrug and it's the worst,
To truly stuck the knife in first

three. Where The Streets Have No Name // U2
[Totally the first song I thought of when I thought I wanted songs with the word "No". It's a classic.]
I want to feel, sunlight on my face
See that dust cloud disappear without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain

four. No Place Feels Like Home // Midtown
[I LOVE MIDTOWN SO HARDCORE NOWADAYS. And every single one of their songs is pretty much my favorite now.]
I want to take you on the road,
Where we'd go I'll never know,
Will you come along?
It's easier when no place feels like home

five. The No Seatbelt Song // Brand New
[I am only discovering the entirety of Brand New's greatness now, but this is a song I've known for a while. I love the lyrics.]
Fix me to a chain around your neck and wear me like a nickel
Even new wine served in old skins cheapens the taste
I shot the pilot, now I'm begging you to fly this for me
I'm here for you to use, broken and bruised
Do you understand?

six. Love Song For No One (Live) // John Mayer
[Awesome lyrics to sing along to and just a really nice concept of a song.]
I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away

seven. She Has No Time // Keane
[Keane was pretty much the band of my high school life. And this was one of those songs I absolutely loved.]
You think your days are ordinary
And no one ever thinks about you
But we're all the same
And she can hardly breathe without you

eight. No Sign of Pain // Azure Ray
[A beautiful song and the vocals are just, uh, I love that voice.]
I know i don't understand how they forget
How some will just pass us by
And take what they can get
I know I don't understand how weig
htless they must be
Without feeling
Without feeling
Without feeling

(5) BODY PARTS

one. Hands on Me // Vanessa Carlton
[I love this girl so much. SO MUCH. And this song has this great piano&violin thing and I love it.]
Someday when our stories are told
They'll tell of a love like this
When our descendents are all growing old
1,000 years they'll be singing
Nah-nah, nah-nah, nah, nah, nah

two. Hands Remember // Seabear
[Beautiful lyrics. A gorgeous song.]
I think I must have known you
In another life
I think our rocking chairs
Used to rock together all night

three. Hands Down // Dashboard Confessional
[Hands. There are lots of songs with them in the title and this might be my favorite. It reminds me of high school and classroom lunchtime jam sessions.]
My heart is yours to fill or burst,
To break or bury,
Or wear as jewelery,
Whichever you prefer

four. Crooked Teeth // Death Cab For Cutie
[One of my favorites of DCFC. The lyrics are totally my favoritest thing ever. Sad in that human way.]
I'm a war, of head versus heart,
And it's always this way
My head is weak, my heart always speaks,
Before I know what it will say

five. Be Still My Heart // The Postal Service
[I love their sound and this song has the sweetest lyrics. And the vulnerable guy whose viewpoint it's from. Aw...]
And when I left
You were fast asleep
Tangled in the sheets
And on the bus I could have sworn it was all a dream
And it didn't happen to me

six. Technicolor Eyes // Backseat Goodbye
[Just discovered this band, but gods, this song. It's sweet and happy and in-love but not in a way I hate. And it references Ross of Friends and one of my favorite movies, ESotSM.]
I like the autumn's leaves and bright eyes
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind stands strong in my favorites of all time
Along with you and your technicolor eyes

seven. Bette Davis Eyes // Samantha Ronson
[A much, much better version than the Gwyneth Paltrow one. And I kinda like this, like, a lot.]
She's precocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo stand off sighs
She's got Bette Davis eyes

eight. Automatic Eyes // The Academy Is...
[Loved this song when I first heard it and the Suave Suarez Remix is totally hot stuff too.]
Staring at the wall above the bed
I can’t sleep with all the secrets that you keep
With your automatic eyes
Five years disappeared
Five years disappeared that night

YAY! Thanks so much, dear.

And I'd definitely love to see what you could come up with. And it could be like songs that have titles with things like "Dance". Because you love to dance and whatever. I totally thought of the "Cities" and "The Word 'No'" stuff at random. :3

Go ahead! &hearts

I'd love to see what lists you come up with. I did 8 coz' it was my favorite single digit number and I chose the "Cities" and "Food and Drink" stuff at random. You can, like, add and replace stuff and everything. I know I'd love to see a Miranda hitlist of awesome from you. :3
